so go check him out and show some love peeps!!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIRST OF ALL TELL US WHO YOU ARE AND WHERE ARE YOU FROM.
My name is MYTH, but my super hero name is Michael Ryan Peters-Idzikowski. I'm from Knoxville TN, live in Nashville TN. Sounds weird but it took me a bit to be OK with that. Great place to raise kids........horrid place to be a graffiti artist. I assure you I am not out back shootin' opossums.....that's my friend XALT's job
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO PAINT?
Ever since I can remember I knew I wanted to be something creative. When I was 11 my parents and I went up to see my grandparents. We stopped at this outlet bookstore and I bought this book "Subway Art." Even now I think it was cool as hell that my folks bought it for me. The rest of the world was wakin' up to the fact that graffiti was art.....but for Knoxville it was just a crime. I fell in love with that book, no better word for it, LOVE. I never stopped after that. Now that I think 'bout it, it was an escape for me. A way into a bigger world....still is.
I remember this one time my dad got into the trunk of my car when I was 17. I had 100s of spray cans back there. He was all like "WTF?" I told him I was helpin' to paint my friend's car. "1,000 different colors!" he said. I bet he wish he had never bought me that book right then
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE SCENE OF GRAFFITI WHERE YOU LIVE?
What graffiti scene? Nahhh there is a few. This guy/girl who writes PANDA, hits some very brave spots and very fun writin'. Quick but clean. I also spot a few piece from time to time. Always respect the writers around here, hard to find "safe" but seen spots. The coolest thing around here is in the winter, when the leaves are gone, you can caught a few glimpes of old building that where done up by crews 10-15 years ago. Like dank-ass-funky ghosts.
When I was startin' out in Knoxville it was very cool. There was like 20 writers and we all knew, or knew of each other. There was the crew, TMC, they where the shit. JEKA is probably still my fav writer, and N-SAC my favorite character guy. That was forever ago too.
ANY OTHER INTERESTS/HOBBIES THAN GRAFFITI?
Yeah I write horror stories. I collect art, artists need to buy art or the community dies. I try to hurt myself on a skateboard now and then.
WHAT MAKES A GOOD STYLE?
Damn good question. Goin' with your gut. Don't look at others work you like and compare your own stuff. Let your hand do it's thing and make happy mistakes. Everything in the graffiti world, and art world, has been tried before. Everything, EXCEPT, a person personal style. A writer's style is the ticket to recognition, their ticket to objectivity. Everyone can draw a MYTH, but no one can draw it like I do. Same with DOSE, or ARIZ, or C-STYLE, etc, etc, etc. Skill is nothing, NOTHING, with out style.
ANY FAVORITE WRITER/ARTIST?
Tons! I never stop lookin'. My favorite all time artist is Robt. Williams. My favorite comic artist is Adam Warren. My favorite writers are..... oh hell there are tons man. Graffiti is great because no one writer has all the pieces, each one has a great grasp of only one or two aspect. Let's just say that when I comment on someones work I mean every word I say. The writers I look up to are too high to count.
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU STILL HAVE SOMETHING TO ACHIVE IN GRAFFITI?
I can't sit here and blow smoke, and act like hot shit. The real answer to this question is in a spray can. I want to spray again. I feel like I'm missin' a leg. I need to get my can control back and put my money where my mouth is. That is just the truth.
GOT ANY EXITING STORY TO TELL US?
Yeah I would like to explain why I wasn't on dA for a bit. I was tryin' to rescue a baby from a burnin' building while spraying a piece. I was 'bout to finish the "Y" and change a diaper, when the President came up to me and asked me to become a G.I.Joe. Naturally I declined, I #@$*in' hate guns. So then he was like "Well, hell want to grab a beer." Two years later I woke up in North Korea with a tattoo of me and Obama back to back with our arms crossed, all RUN-DMC style. What a great guy! Then I invented a pencil that doesn't need to be sharpened.
Writers be good to each other. I know we could all play hard, because hell we have had it hard. I grew up in Tennessee and I like to play hard sometimes. However, respect, support, and encourage each other.
DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE WITH FEW WORDS.
Molten, I would like to think. I mean you can always tell it is my work, but I like to try everything. I hope people see that in my work. I would like for my "legacy" to be that of a writer who changed every time he made a piece. An artist who wore a lot of different outfits.
WANT TO SAY HELLO TO ANYONE?
I hope that some of ya' have read my past interview and know I usually have a huge list of shout-outs. I try to remember all the names of those artist who have encouraged me, inspired me, and even criticized me. I respect you all.
But... this time I have only one shout-out. I want to shout out to my wife KRIZ. I would be nothing, have nothing, and feel nothing if it wasn't for her. She has worked, worked, and worked for our family to be in the best place possible. I am a very hard person to love, and she has always supported me. I love you so much my beautiful butterfly. You are my life.
Much love to the crews. SLC-2nd-CSR-SOUL-IED-SOL-WHAT-NINJA-and if I forgot one it because we need to get together.
So much thanks to DOSE for the interview-ness, and for bein' my brother!
.......and everybody say hi to their moms for me.......I know she misses me
